Privacy notice

This notice explains what Contoso Insurance does with personal information when you ask about cover, report a claim or use this website.

What we collect

  • Identity and contact details, including name, address, postcode, telephone number and email address
  • Policy details, including the policy number, product, cover level and excess
  • Claim details, including what happened, when, the amount claimed and any documents or photographs you send
  • Records of contact with us, including calls, messages and chat transcripts

Why we use it

  • To decide whether a claim is covered and to settle it
  • To confirm we are speaking to the policyholder before discussing a policy or claim
  • To detect and prevent fraud
  • To meet our legal and regulatory obligations

Automated decisions and assistants

We use automated tools, including AI assistants, to help answer questions and to assess claim evidence. An automated tool never makes a final decision to decline a claim on its own, and you can ask for a person to review any outcome.

How long we keep it

Claim records are kept for seven years after the claim closes. Enquiry records that do not become claims are kept for twelve months.

Your rights

  • Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct anything that is wrong
  • Ask us to delete information we no longer need
  • Object to how we are using it
  • Complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office

Training material

Contoso Insurance is a fictional company. This website was built as training material for a course on the Microsoft agent stack, and every policy, claim, repairer and phone number on it is invented. Nothing here is a real insurance product and none of it is financial advice.
