Verifying your identity

We split what we can tell you into two groups, and the line between them is simple.

Open to everyone

  • What each product covers and excludes
  • The standard excess for each product
  • Our approved repairer network and each firm’s status
  • General claims guidance, including what to do at the scene
  • How long each stage of a claim usually takes

Needs verification

  • The status of a specific claim
  • Amounts on a specific claim
  • Cover, excess or exclusions on a specific policy
  • Anything naming a policyholder
  • Documents held against a claim

What we ask for

Your policy number and the postcode registered on the policy. We check the pair together, and we check that any claim you ask about belongs to that policy.

What this does and does not do

This stops a policy number seen on a letter or a windscreen docket from being enough on its own. It is not a substitute for signing in, and we will never ask you for a password, a full bank number or a one time code by telephone or in a chat window. If someone does, it is not us.

If you cannot remember your policy number

It appears at the top of your schedule and on any letter we have sent you. If you cannot find it, contact us and we will find it another way rather than guess.
